Have you ever looked up the stars on a clear night and wondered what’s out there? The night sky is such a mysterious place to ponder. Well, whether you wonder about space aliens or just heavenly bodies one thing is for sure: Space rocks! Yes, that pun was intended hehe. Space rocks are flying at incredible speeds and have no mind about us earthlings.

I have recently been made aware of an approaching near-Earth object (NEO) which could either come dangerously close to earth or actually strike the Earth.

For some perspective, there are many near-earth objects because we pass through the Taurid Meteor belt twice a year in June and July then later in the year in October and November. The Taurid swarm of space debris thought to have been leftover from a gigantic asteroid is thought to have caused the Tunguska Event on June 30, 1908. This event flattened over 2000 square kilometers of Siberian forest. If this object had hit a populated area it would have killed thousands of people and animals. Fortunately, it struck an unpopulated area in Siberia.

In 2013, the Russian town of Chelyabinsk on February 15 was damaged by a falling space rock. There were over 1500 people injured, 3 killed, and millions in property damage. Due to many people in Chelyabinsk with vehicle dash cameras, there was plenty of video footage capturing the event. This NEO…
